Tenants encouraged to have their say on council tenancy agreement changes

Council housing tenants are being invited to have their say over changes to the frequency of their rent charges.

In future tenants will be charged rent weekly instead of monthly. It is hoped the move will help tenants budget more efficiently and bring the rent payment system into line with other Council operations.

Letters will be sent out to tenants in the coming days, informing them of the changes. The consultation gives tenants 14 days to respond, and if accepted, the new charging system will come into effect in the Tenancy Agreement from 4 April 2022.

Councillor Cathy Scott, Cabinet Member for Housing and Democracy, said:

“We actively encourage the tenant voice in all we do, which is why it’s important all our tenants can share their feelings about the proposed changes.

“We hope they will take part in this consultation so we can listen to their feedback and make sure we’re shaping services in a way that meets their needs.”

Tenants have until 5 pm on Thursday, 3 March 2022 to express their views.

They can email responses to housing@kirklees.gov.uk, call the Support & Information Team on 01484 414886 or write to us at Kirklees Council, Homes & Neighbourhoods, Red Doles Lane, Huddersfield, HD2 1YF
