Ward Summer Walkabout Cleanup

Our Greenspace Action Team have been out and about on Summer Ward Walkabouts cleaning up and creating a clean and green environment across the district.

Where has work been completed?

The team have been busy identifying Wards to complete works, with a different area being covered each week. This week the team have worked fantastically hard and managed to complete work across four of our Wards; Holme Valley, Colne Valley, Batley and Huddersfield.

Did the team issue any fines?

Eleven fixed penalty notices were issued including six for littering from a motor vehicle, two for face-to-face littering, and three for fly tipping.

What work did the team complete?

The team completed some brilliant work including removing the fly tipping of rubbish and furniture at Maxwell Avenue and West View, Batley. Enforcement Officers issued notices to landlords relating to the problem of items being dumped to ensure the alley is kept clear.

The team also conducted trimming of trees and overgrown hedges as well as the clearing of leaves, rubble and debris across areas in Holmfirth, Skelmanthorpe and Clayton West.

Moss was removed from the pavement at Quarry Hill, Almondbury, which was becoming slippy and dangerous to walk on.

Councillor Naheed Mather, Cabinet Member for Greener Kirklees says:

“The team have done a fantastic job and have been thanked by local residents and councillors for their hard work. Some brilliant work was done by the team to clear the alley way between Maxwell Avenue and West View, Batley, which was full of waste. Some fly tipping in Holmfirth town centre was also promptly removed as well as cleaning the streets and paths in other areas – making them safe for the public.”

Other work also included the cleaning of road signs.
