What has happened?
We have been informed that eight members of 107 staff at a bed manufacturer in Batley have tested positive for COVID-19.
As soon as we became aware of this issue, we acted quickly to work with Public Heath England as well as the business and their staff to limit any further potential spread.
How many people have tested positive?
So far, eight people at the business have tested positive. They have been asked to follow national guidance and self-isolate for seven days.
Is the factory open?
Dura Beds have taken the decision to close the facility for two weeks as a safety precaution for its employees and their families.
Has it been contained?
To make sure we contain the virus, we are now offering testing for the whole workforce and are setting up a mobile testing unit on site.
Following the Test and Trace programme, Kirklees Council, Public Health England and the company are also working together to identify and contact everyone who has been in contact with a positive case. If appropriate, they will be asked to self-isolate for 14 days.
We will continue to work with the business until all the relevant action has been taken and we are satisfied there is no spread of COVID-19 at the workplace.
Has anyone died as a result of this outbreak?
We are not aware of anyone who has tested positive being seriously ill or dying.
Should I be concerned about this?
We think the risk to members of the public outside this workplace is very low. Anyone who may have come into contact with an infected person will be contacted directly through the test and trace system.
Everyone needs to continue to follow national government guidance around social distancing, hand washing and to get a test if you have symptoms.
Will Kirklees go into local lockdown?
At the moment, there are no plans for this in Kirklees and we do not see this happening based on our current levels of infection.
Public safety is the number one priority as always and we will continue to monitor the situation locally.
Do I need to avoid leaving the house?
No. Providing you have not been contacted and told otherwise, you can continue to leave the house following the latest government advice; you can find that here.
