We’re bringing a mobile collection point to a number of areas across the borough to make it easier for local people to access Covid-19 Lateral Flow home testing kits.
In a national effort to reduce infection rates, twice-weekly asymptomatic Covid-19 testing is currently available for everyone in England.
You may already be aware that there are a few different ways you can access your twice-weekly asymptomatic tests. However, we know it can be difficult for some people to access these options for a number of reasons.
That’s why, as part of a pilot, we’re setting up a one-day mobile collection point in each the following areas: Skelmanthorpe, Ravensthorpe, Linthwaite, Golcar and Gomersal between the dates of 15 April – 18 April 2021.
We’re doing this as a pilot to better understand demand for this type of service. So please use the mobile collection point if it is in your local area and you’re struggling to access your twice-weekly asymptomatic tests through the other options available.
Anyone over 18 can collect two packs of home testing kits (containing seven tests each) – the times, dates and locations are in the below table.
You don’t need to book, just turn up and please wear a face covering and social distance from those outside your household or bubble.
The tests come with instructions on how to use the tests and how frequently you should take them. We will have staff on hand to show you how to use the tests should you need help. You will also be able to take a test a lateral flow Covid-19 test at the mobile collection point if you wish.
Rachel Spencer-Henshall, Strategic Director for Public Health at Kirklees Council, said: “In addition to getting vaccinated and always remembering hands, face, space, another great way you can help reduce the spread of Covid-19 in your community is getting a rapid lateral flow test twice a week if you are not showing any symptoms.
“Asymptomatic testing helps us identify people who are infectious and could spread the infection to others unknowingly. This is particularly important with restrictions now starting to ease and it now being much more likely to come into contact with people from other households.
“We’re piloting these mobile collection points to make it even easier for people to take up the offer of getting tested twice a week.”

Other ways to get your asymptomatic tests:
- There are collection sites available across Kirklees. You do not need to book and you can collect two packs of home test kits at a local collection point. Each pack contains 7 tests.
- You can also take a rapid lateral flow test at a local site. Testing at these sites is assisted, which means you will swab yourself under the supervision of a trained operator.
- Your workplace may offer rapid lateral flow testing to you. Contact your employer to find out more.
- You can collect test kits from participating pharmacies.
- You can also order a home test kit online but please note that this is a limited service and is aimed at those who are unable to get test from the other methods because they are shielding for example.
