As part of the Thriving Kirklees offer, Yorkshire Children’s Centre provide a Safety in the Home service.
If you live in Kirklees and have a child under 2 years old, you could be entitled to FREE home safety equipment supplied and fitted in your property, plus home safety information and advice.
For people who qualify, the safety equipment includes:
- 2 safety gates
- 1 fire guard
- 1 bath mat
- Cupboard locks
- Corner cushions
- Blind cord winders
- Window restrictors
- Reduce The Risk book

Healthy Start
You may also be eligible for Healthy Start, which aims to improve nutrition for those who are pregnant and children under four in low-income families who receive certain benefits.
People who qualify for Healthy Start will receive a card with money on it. The money can be used to buy a range of products including milk and healthy food.
