Dozens of local projects have already run successful crowdfunding campaigns through our Growing Great Places programme.
Together they have raised over £380,000 in pledges, helping to get some great ideas off the ground in local places. Take part in a free online workshop to find out how to join them.

Want to connect with others who can help make it happen and raise funds to get going? Growing Great Places, run by Kirklees Council in partnership with Spacehive, can help you to get that great idea off the ground.
Dozens of local groups and organisations have already been successful, with their projects being backed by almost 2,000 local people and organisations.
Here are a few examples…
- Slaithwaite Moonraking Festival
Crowdfunding with Growing Great Places has helped bring back this popular festival. The organisers asked local people to give what they could afford and asked groups, schools and businesses to get involved by running creative fundraising events. 150 people and organisations backed the project, which raised£28,531.
- Holmfirth Repair Cafe
Holmfirth Transition Town (HoTT) ran a successful crowdfunding campaign during the Covid lockdown. Read project creator Caroline’s story on our blog: How local people can fix things
- Friendship Through Puppets
The 6 million + Charitable Trust crowdfunded £13,851 from 97 backers to create a Syrian ‘Weeping Sister’ giant puppet, working with refugees and local people. She was then paraded through Dewsbury and Batley.
- Fairfield School Pond
Fairfield School in Batley involved children with complex needs in creating a wonderful campaign video for their school. They crowdfunded over £15k to develop and transform their overgrown pond area.
- Sanctuary Football
TRILLZ worked in partnership with other local organisations that had previously crowdfunded. Together they have helped sanctuary seekers living in Kirklees to train and play football in Huddersfield.
- St James Church Clock Face Repair
Over 60 people supported the campaign to repair this historic clock, which is an iconic feature of Slaithwaite. It was originally funded by public donations. Crowdfunding has helped this civic pride to continue.
These are just a few of the great ideas that people have come up with to help their communities connect and thrive – and we’re keen to support many more.
We’re now launching our next Growing Great Places funding round, for groups anywhere in Kirklees who are aiming to start crowdfunding this spring. Successful projects could receive a pledge of up to £5,000 from Kirklees Council.
Online workshop – December 2022
Spacehive and Kirklees Council are running a free online workshop where you can get advice and support. We’ll be on hand to answer your questions and share advice about running a successful crowdfunding campaign. Our online session includes different breakout rooms where you can get the support that’s right for you. So whether you’re almost ready to get started with your project, or you’re just thinking about some ideas, we can help.
The next deadline to have your project ready to crowdfund is 1st February 2023. Come along to one of our free workshops to get all the support you need to get started.
