Gem trail and Coronation photobooth

Search the museum for precious gems and feel like royalty in our Regal photobooth

Bands in Parks

As part of Kirklees Year of Music, Bands in the Park is back for 2023! Weekend concerts will take place in a variety of locations across the district, beginning on the Coronation weekend. From brass and silver bands, to jazz, swing and blues, come and enjoy some free music in our beautiful Kirklees parks this summer. Full dates, times and bands to be announced shortly.

Fun activities to celebrate at home

Celebrating at home doesn’t have to cost much! We’ve put together a handy guide with ideas on how you can celebrate with the little ones at home.

Traditional party games

Why not put a spin on the traditional party games! Super easy to keep the little ones entertained and it doesn’t cost much.

The King says– a coronation spin on the game simon says

Royal bingo– have a fun game of bingo but instead of using numbers you can use names or objects associated with the Royal Family.

Pin the crown on the King– make your own crowns and draw a picture of the king and try and pin his crown

Create your own bunting

Get creative and make your own red, white and blue bunting or you could even create different coronation designs.

Design your own coronation party crown

Become a royal for the day and make your own coronation party crown!

Coronation Big Lunch

The Coronation big lunch

Bring a picnic and find a spot on our lawns to enjoy some live brass band music, crafts, trails and quiz.

Venue: Oakwell Hall

Date: Sunday 7 May

Time: 11am to 3pm

Coronation picnic

Play traditional outdoor games, get involved with a themed trail, craft activities and plant your own coronation sunflower. Bring your own picnic

Venue: Bagshaw Museum

Date: Monday 8 May

Time: 11am to 4pm

Have your own picnic

If you can’t make it to one of the big lunches, don’t worry! You can still celebrate at home. Set out your own picnic whether its in a garden, local park or even in your home. You could even make some special coronation food, click on the links below for some inspiration.

The Big Help Out

On Monday 8 May everyone has the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and get involved with a local group to help out and support the work they are doing. Hundreds of activities are being planned by some of the UK’s best-known national charities as well as local community groups.

Find out how to get involved in a new community garden at Wilton Park, near Bagshaw Museum. Help get the site ready, plant seeds, try foods and let us know what you think we should grow.
