Work begins on a brand-new adventure playground at Cliffe House

We’re excited to share that work will soon begin on creating a brand-new adventure playground at Cliffe House – bringing a much-loved community space back to life for children and families across Kirklees.

Construction will begin on 9 March, with the finished playground ready to welcome school residentials and visitors in May 2026, weather permitting. While work is underway, the current adventure playground will be closed to the public, but Cliffe House grounds and other facilities will remain open as normal.

This investment marks an important step in making Cliffe House an even more welcoming place for play, learning and family time.

Why we’re creating a new adventure playground

The new play space has been designed with community, safety and inclusion at its heart. Once completed, it will offer:

A safe and welcoming place to play

We’re replacing the old, closed facility with a modern playground that meets current safety standards, giving families peace of mind and children a high-quality place to explore and have fun.

A valued community asset

The playground will serve local families as well as visitors from the wider Kirklees area and neighbouring towns – helping Cliffe House continue to grow as a destination for outdoor play.

Inclusive and accessible for all children

Thoughtfully designed features will ensure children of all abilities, including those with disabilities, can play, explore and enjoy the space together. Sensory elements will support children who benefit from different ways of interacting with their environment.

A family-friendly space to spend time together

The playground will offer opportunities for families to relax, connect and make memories – supporting children’s wellbeing and helping communities feel more connected.

Better health and wellbeing through play

Outdoor play is vital for children’s development and confidence. The new equipment will encourage physical activity, exploration and imaginative play, all while supporting children’s health and happiness.

A long-term investment in the area

This project strengthens Cliffe House’s role as a key community resource and supports its future as a place for residents and visiting school groups to learn, grow and spend time together.

How we’re involving local children

We want local young people to feel part of this exciting project. As part of our engagement work:

When the work is happening

We know families love the adventure playground, and we appreciate your patience while the work takes place. The result will be a safer, more inclusive and more inspiring space for children across Kirklees.
