We’re inviting unpaid carers from across Kirklees to join us for a special Carers Week celebration in Greenhead Park, Huddersfield, on Tuesday 9 June 2026, from 11am to 3pm. The event is completely free, and it’s a chance for you to take a break, connect with others and feel appreciated for everything you do.
A day to relax, connect and feel supported
The celebration is being run by Carers Count and S2R, through S2R’s Great Outdoors project, with support from us at Kirklees Council.
Carers Count is a dedicated service supporting unpaid carers across Kirklees, and S2R is a local mental health and wellbeing charity. Together, they’re creating a welcoming space where you can enjoy activities, workshops, refreshments and stalls — all designed to support your wellbeing and help you meet other carers.
It’s a relaxed, friendly day out where you can unwind, chat and enjoy time in the park.
Support available all year round
Alongside the main event, you can also access support at Carer Wellbeing Sessions taking place across Kirklees throughout the year. These sessions offer practical advice, emotional support and opportunities to connect with others who understand the challenges of caring.
Carers Week 2026: building carer‑friendly communities
This year’s Carers Week theme — Building Carer Friendly Communities — highlights the importance of creating places, services and relationships that understand and support unpaid carers.
Unpaid carers look after someone with a disability, frailty, physical or mental illness, or a long‑term condition, often while balancing work, family life or other responsibilities. Your role is vital, and we want to make sure you feel seen, supported and valued.
Recognising the vital role of unpaid carers
Michelle Cross, Executive Director for Adults and Health said:
“Unpaid carers are the backbone of our communities, and their contribution often goes unseen. Through our Kirklees Unpaid Carers Strategy, we are committed to recognising their vital role and ensuring they feel supported, valued and understood.
Building a carer‑friendly Kirklees means creating places, services and relationships that make life easier for carers — from employers who understand caring responsibilities to neighbours who look out for one another. It’s about fostering a culture where unpaid carers are visible, respected and never left to cope alone.”
