Crime thrillers, live events and creative workshops: a new chapter begins for Huddersfield’s Library Hub

Meet award-winning crime noveliest and screenwriter AA Dhand

The countdown to the opening of Huddersfield’s new Library Hub has taken another step forward, with the launch of an exciting programme of events that will bring authors, performers, artists and communities together in the months ahead.

While the new Library Hub doesn’t open until later this year, the first event in the programme has now been announced and will take place at Huddersfield Town Hall.

Meet bestselling author A.A. Dhand

Award-winning crime novelist and screenwriter A.A. Dhand will be appearing at Huddersfield Town Hall on Tuesday 8 July at 7.30pm.

A.A. Dhand is the creator of the Harry Virdee novels, which were recently adapted into the BBC crime drama Virdee. During the event, he’ll talk about his latest thriller, The Kingpin, his writing career and what it’s like to see your work brought to life on screen.

Tickets cost £3 and can be booked now at www.ticketsource.com/kirkleeslibraries.

Just the beginning

While A.A. Dhand is the first event to be announced, there’s much more to come.

The new programme will give people a flavour of the activities and experiences that will be available in the new Library Hub when it opens later this year as part of Our Cultural Heart.

Over the coming months we’ll be announcing more events featuring authors, artists, performers and community organisations from across Kirklees and beyond.

Whether you’re interested in books, local history, theatre, music, creative activities, family events or wellbeing sessions, there will be something to discover.

A library for everyone

The new Library Hub has been designed to be much more than a traditional library.

Alongside books and learning resources, it will provide flexible spaces for events, workshops, exhibitions, performances and community activities. It will be a place where people can learn new skills, explore ideas, connect with others and enjoy culture right in the heart of Huddersfield.

The programme has been developed with a wide range of creative, cultural and community partners and will continue to grow after the Library Hub opens.

Be part of the journey

The new Library Hub is one of the first major elements of Our Cultural Heart to open and will be based in a brand-new building next to the beautifully restored Queensgate Market building.

As we get closer to opening day, we’ll continue to share details of new events, activities and opportunities to get involved.

For now, crime fiction fans can get the programme started by joining A.A. Dhand at Huddersfield Town Hall on 8 July.
