A £10 million transport scheme in Holmfirth town centre has now been completed, delivering improvements to accessibility, road safety, connectivity and parking.
Improvements across the town centre
Funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Transforming Cities Fund, the project includes upgrades to Huddersfield Road Car Park, new pedestrian links, accessibility, secure cycle facilities and improvements to public spaces.
The Huddersfield Road Car Park, opposite the Holmfirth Library, now has additional parking spaces and easier to access disabled parking bays and pedestrian access has been re-established between Huddersfield Road and Hollowgate, making the centre more connected and local businesses easier to access.
Other improvements include improvements the infrastructure and the bridge over the River Holme, boundary walls and access to the river. New paving, tactile paving for he visually impaired, kerbing, drainage and pedestrian crossings have been installed helping create a safer and more accessible environment for residents and visitors.
Councillor John Hardie, Kirklees Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Highways, Transport said:

The Transforming Cities Fund is a capital grant programme designed to support investment in public and sustainable transport infrastructure, helping to improve connectivity and create places that are easier and safer to access.
Holmfirth Food and Drink Festival returns
The scheme completes as Holmfirth prepares to welcome visitors to the annual Food and Drink Festival on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September. The event, which attracts thousands of visitors each year, will feature a food market with flavours from across the world, tasty craft drinks, live music, entertainment and local businesses will be taking part across the town centre.
