The competence and Conduct Policy is taking shape

Thank you to everyone who shared their views on staff competence and conduct in August and September.

How was feedback gathered?

Tenants shared their views through surveys, coffee mornings and focus groups. Feedback was also gathered from colleagues across Homes & Neighbourhoods and the wider council.

Why are we asking for feedback?

The Government’s Competence and Conduct Standard comes into effect in October. It’s about making sure housing staff have the right skills, knowledge and experience to give every tenant a high-quality, respectful service.

To help us meet the requirements of the standard, we spoke to tenants and colleagues about what good competence and conduct look like in practice. Their feedback is helping to shape an emerging Competence and Conduct Policy and a set of Conduct Expectations for Homes & Neighbourhoods. These will build on the council’s existing policies and our values of kindness, inclusion and pride.

What are the next steps?

We’re now using the feedback received to help develop the policy and conduct expectations, which will be presented to Cabinet for approval early next year.

The feedback will also help shape staff training and support improvements to the customer experience for all Homes & Neighbourhoods tenants.
