Kirklees parks and green spaces are world class

We are celebrating after winning six Green Flag Awards for parks and green spaces in the borough.

What is the Green Flag Awards?

The Green Flag Awards scheme recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces. It sets the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.

Who are the winners?

Kirklees winners include Almondbury Fort at Castle Hill, Beaumont Park, Crow Nest Park, Greenhead Park, and Wilton Park. An extra win for the district came with Oakwell Hall Country Park (Green Heritage Site).

Councillor Rob Walker, Cabinet Member for Culture and Environment, said:

“Winning a Green Flag Award status visibly demonstrates to the local community that a clear improvement has been made to a site which we’re very proud of.

This is recognition of the level of community involvement and input the council has put in to create such wonderful public spaces.

This is a fantastic win for the council and recognises all the hard work we have put in, as well as the work from the local communities. It is an excellent attraction for tourism in the area.”
