Sometimes we can’t help but take a tumble, it’s unavoidable. Most of us can use our balance and strength to keep ourselves upright and prevent a fall.
As we get older, we are at more risk of falling as our bodies change. Our bone density becomes weaker, less muscle mass, lose balance, visual and hearing impairments can contribute to falls and fractures.
It’s more common for people over 65 to experience falls, with over a third falling at least once a year and 50% of over 80’s falling. Falls not only cause injury, pain and distress, but loss of confidence and independence, can lead to other illnesses or even be fatal.
