Scarily good events at Kirklees Libraries
Library Adventures
Library Adventures is a free, year-round reading for pleasure programme for children aged 4 – 11. Your quest is to journey through the haunting Library Adventure pack. The spooky pack is full of eerie crafts, chilling reading suggestions, creepy facts, and ghoulish creative activities. You can collect spine-tingling stickers, bewitching bookmarks, haunted certificates, and more throughout the year as you visit the different themes.

What’s on at Tolson Museum this October!
Kids in Museums ‘Hidden Wonders Hunt’
Based on books by best selling author Chloe Savage.
A free fun trail accessible for younger children (ages 4+) and their families, the Hidden Wonders Hunt will inspire little minds and celebrate the joy of exploration and discovery. Spot beautiful artwork from the Hidden Wonders books hiding amongst the museum collections. Spot all the artwork and reveal a hidden word! Complete the trail to receive a free sticker.

Craft Activities & Spooky Fun
Join us in the museum for free craft activities. Design and make your own Autumn or Halloween garland to decorate your room. Afterwards, take part in the Spooky Spells prize trail for just £1, follow the clues, solve the mystery, and claim your reward.

Rhythm of the Drums

Louise’s Art workshop – Halloween themed

Huddersfield Literature Festival: Children’s Prize Trail
Explore the Huddersfield Literature Festival with a special children’s prize trail, created by Carlton Junior & Infant School in collaboration with artist Louise Grassby. Follow the trail, solve the clues, and discover a world of stories and creativity!

Spooky Trail in the Hall
For little ghouls and spooky seekers, follow the trail through the hall to discover ghosts, bats, and witchy wonders. A fun and family-friendly Halloween adventure.

Autumn Fair
Join us for a celebration of harvest, heritage, and handmade treasures at our Autumn Fair. Enjoy a day of seasonal treats, crafts, and local delights.

RSPB – Wildlife Walks at Oakwell Hall
Explore the natural world with Jo from RSPB St Aidan’s. Join the Spider Safari to discover the fascinating and often-misunderstood spiders of the UK, and learn why these eight-legged creatures are crucial for our woods, gardens, and wildlife. Then take part in a Bird Walk to spot and identify woodland and garden birds, from blue tits and blackbirds to sparrows and starlings. A fun and educational experience for all ages.

Fungi Walk in the Country Park
Join our Country Park team for a guided walk and explore the fascinating world of fungi growing in the park.

Tales of the Devil in Yorkshire – Leeds Waits: A Series of Entertaining History Talks at Oakwell Hall
The Devil has many names – Father of Lies, the Dark One, Lucifer, Satan, Beelzebub, the Fallen Star, Demon Ruler, the Adversary, King of the Bottomless Pit are but a few of them – and many faces. He also had, at one time, quite a liking for God’s Own County of Yorkshire. Discover his curious escapades through stories, poems, and songs about his activities hereabouts – sometimes his deeds were evil, sometimes they weren’t, and sometimes you just had to wonder what he was thinking.

Pumpkin Picking

Halloween fun trail
Get outdoors and enjoy our fun family trail around the grounds of Cliffe House. The trail is family and buggy friendly, something the whole family can enjoy. When you have collected all the clues return to the food kiosk to collect your prize (1 prize per paid trail sheet).

Caving (Off-Site activity)
A fantastic day trip exploring a limestone cave within the Peak District National Park. Walk, climb and crawl through cave systems observing stalagmites, stalactites and fossils.
The cost of the trip includes transport to and from Cliffe House, qualified instructors and all equipment.
You will need to bring lunch, drink, towel and a change of clothing (you may get wet!)
Meeting point is at Cliffe House at 8:45am ready to complete a consent form.
When: Tuesday 28 October, 9.00am until 4.00pm
Where: Limestone cave within the Peak District National Park.
Cost: £60.00 per person + booking fee
Bushcraft
Book on for our fantastic instructor led Bushcraft activity. This is the perfect family activity for all to sit around a campfire toasting marshmallows, making & cooking your own garlic bread twist, all washed down with a warming hot chocolate. Please advise us of any special dietary requirements.
No need to worry about the damp conditions – this session is based under cover within our woodland.

Archery
Join our activity instructors in learning how to draw the arrow, balance the bow & fire at a distance target – Challenge your family members as to who can score the greatest points. All under cover so no need to worry about damp conditions. 6yrs+
