Kirklees Virtual School celebrates achievements of children and young people and the professionals who make a real difference in their lives.

Virtual Schools Event

The event was an opportunity to recognise the hard work, dedication and achievements of the amazing professionals across our educational settings who make a real difference to young people’s lives.

Kirklees Virtual School is not a school in the traditional sense. It is a team within Kirklees Council that works to promote and improves the educational outcomes of children in care and other vulnerable young people. The team support and monitor the progress of these children, working closely with educational providers, social workers and other professionals to ensure the children receive the support they need to thrive in education and fulfil their potential.

This year, there is even more reason to celebrate. Pupils supported by Kirklees Virtual School have exceeded targets for SPAG (spelling, punctuation and grammar). At Key Stage 4, pupils achieved results above the national average compared to their peers, while Key Stage 2 outcomes continue to improve – reflecting both the hard work of our children and young people and the dedicated support provided by the Virtual School.

Tom Brailsford, Executive Director for Children and Families, said:

“We are proud of everything our young people have achieved and the effort they put in every day.

“We are also proud of the progress made by Kirklees Virtual School. Exceeding SPAG targets, achieving results above the national average at Key Stage 4 and improving outcomes at Key Stage 2 shows what can happen when young people get the right support. These successes belong to our young people and to the dedicated professionals who help them along the way.”

Amanda Denney, Headteacher, Moorlands Primary School said: ” We had a great afternoon and felt valued for the work we do. We care so much about the children, to have this acknowledged and to meet Jaz [guest speaker] was emotional and uplifting at the same time, we loved it”

The celebration highlighted a wide range of professionals all with a common dedication to their roles and the young people they serve. At the event roles such as Headteachers, caretakers, tutors, teaching assistants, and pastoral staff were all celebrated.
