Social Prescribing creates meaningful friendships for new families in Kirklees

social prescribing creates meaningful friendships for new families in Kirklees

Our Social Prescribing team works with families and individuals, connecting them to local activities, services and support to help with their health, wellbeing, and social welfare.

New beginnings

Earlier this year, six families migrated from Ukraine to Kirklees and were referred to Ann in our Social Prescribing team.

New to the area, the families were quickly connected to a friendship group at Shelly, and the local Ukrainian club in Huddersfield.

Meaningful friendships

Sarah (Not her real name) is fluent in English and was a teacher in Ukraine. After speaking to our Social Prescribing team, she decided she wanted to use her language skills to help other Ukranian families who recently moved to the area.

New friendships blossomed and Sarah now meets with her new friends out in the community as well as at the Ukrainian club.

Always on hand

Sarah actively supports new families that are referred to the Social Prescribing team. She is always on hand to welcome and provide interpreting services when needed.

A family was referred who did not speak English. When asked, Sarah stepped in right away to provide interpreting services.

Families were added to a WhatsApp group which has now grown to 20 people from around Kirklees.
