Electric bus means greener travel to tackle loneliness
Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees have purchased a fully accessible minibus that will help them continue to deliver vital services including their Home from Hospital service and transport people to and from their Wellbeing (Care) Centres.
They raised an incredible £66,000 with a fundraising campaign that included donations, auctions, and raffles to purchase an electric minibus.
Driving away loneliness
For many older people, services delivered by Age UK are their only means of interaction outside of the home. They make sure that older people get the physical and emotional wellbeing support they need to maintain their independence, feel valued and drive away loneliness for good.
The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic continue to have a detrimental effect on individuals physical and mental health and wellbeing. The Age UK eco bus can continue to serve and support those in need, break down barriers and help them access additional services including walking football, Tai Chi, and the befriending service.
Going net zero
The Age UK eco bus also proudly supports the Council’s work towards achieving the ‘net-zero’ carbon emission target for 2038.
