Neurodiversity Week – we’re leading the way in inclusivity

Neurodiversity week

As part of Neurodiversity Week, we are holding showcase events to highlight Project Search. Project Search is a groundbreaking scheme to support young people.

Project Search is a national initiative aimed at providing young people with learning disabilities and/or autism the opportunity to thrive in real work environments and achieve paid employment.

Young people aged 18-24, whose potential might be overlooked in the job market, benefit from internships which provide supported learning and work experience.

The council, in collaboration with Dewsbury Hospital, hosts two programmes within the district, usually accepting 12 interns each year. Through Project Search, many young people with additional needs have found employment.

Project Search showcase events – open to all

Our free events are taking place in Dewsbury and Huddersfield on March 21. It’s a great way to find out more about both neurodiversity and Project Search. These sessions aim to provide insight and information, boosting awareness, understanding and support within the community.

Our current Project Search interns will be at both sites to describe their experiences, challenges and successes within the programme.

Partners attending include C&K Careers, Kirklees College and REAL Employment. They are committed to raising awareness of neurodiversity and connecting with attendees who may benefit from their vital services.

No need to book

The events will run simultaneously at the Customer Service Centre, Civic Centre 3 in Huddersfield and Dewsbury Library on Thursday March 21 from 10am to 2pm.

There is no need to book, just come along for a chat.
