Eid al-Fitr celebrations at Huddersfield Night Market
Huddersfield Market will host a special community event on Sunday 7 April 2024 to celebrate Chand Raat and the start of Eid celebrations.
The Apna Bazaar night market, in partnership with Radio Sangam, will feature Asian and Middle Eastern food and drinks, goods and live entertainment.
What is Chand Raat?
Chand Raat, which translates as “the night of the moon”, is a Muslim holiday that occurs at the end of Ramadan, on the eve of Eid al-Fitr. Muslims and people of all faiths are invited to the festivities at Huddersfield Market.
What will happen at the event?
The event will feature live entertainment hosted by Radio Sangam; a Community Iftar (a meal to break fast); henna artists; and market stalls selling a range of South Asian goods such as jewellery, hampers and gifts, fragrances, clothing and more.
A feast of Asian, Caribbean and Middle Eastern foods, drinks and sweet treats will be available to buy for everyone and those breaking their fast.
This Chand Raat event is the first Apna Bazaar night market of 2024. The regular Apna Bazaar events will be back for the summer months.
Qaisar Mahmood, CEO of Radio Sangam said that he is delighted that the North’s biggest Chand Raat is this year partnering with Kirklees Council and the Apna Bazaar night market.
“The new venue for our event will improve accessibility and hopefully people of all or no faiths will join us in what promises to be one of the most colourful and vibrant evenings of 2024.”
