Give business a boost: Tidy Trader initiative supporting retailers in Heckmondwike and Cleckheaton

Tidy Trader initiative

Do you own a shop in Heckmondwike or Cleckheaton?  We’re offering you a chance to boost your business.

Our new Tidy Trader initiative is all about making the town centres better places to be, and supporting local small businesses.  Cleckheaton and Heckmondwike are two of our blueprint towns, which means we’re already looking at lots of different ways to improve both towns for local people and visitors alike – and this includes a big focus on helping businesses thrive.

What is the Tidy Trader initiative?

We’re offering businesses exclusive access to a series of marketing guidance, and the opportunity to win free marketing support led by Yorkshire-based marketing professionals Youbee Media.

Earlier this year, we ran a series of workshops open to businesses in Cleckheaton and Heckmondwike.  Through this programme, we’ll be continuing to share exclusive marketing advice from industry experts over the coming months.  Local business owners can sign up to the series of marketing tips on the council’s website, and successfully implementing these could win you more professional marketing support tailored to your own business.

From each town, there will be four winning businesses receiving free support from Youbee Media over the course of the next year – one every quarter.  Could you be one of these Tidy Traders?

How is this funded?

The project came about through our Place Standards work.  Place Standards is a tool developed to help start conversations about specific locations, and we use it to find out what matters most to our residents about their local area.

As a result of this public engagement around Heckmondwike and Cleckheaton, we decided to allocate £1,000 to each town centre, supporting local shop-owners, increasing footfall and above all creating a vibrant, more appealing place for people who live in and visit these towns.

Councillor Graham Turner, Cabinet Member for Finance & Regeneration, says:

“We’re thrilled to launch the Tidy Trader initiative in Heckmondwike and Cleckheaton.  This programme is a clear demonstration of our unwavering commitment to supporting local businesses and enhancing the visual appeal of our town centres, and a lot of the work thus far has been truly championed by local ward councillors who know and love these towns as much as anyone.

“Our blueprints for both town centres underscore the importance of a vibrant high street for the economic success of our towns, and this programme is a significant stride towards that success.”
