Are you ready to embark on a career that truly makes a difference? Join us to secure an inspiring job that is both rewarding and makes a difference to the lives of children and young people.

With high-quality support available, you can gain all the skills you need to become an exceptional teacher. Our School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programme offers placements in various schools across Kirklees and Calderdale and surrounding areas.

Unlike traditional Higher Education settings, SCITT allows you to train directly in schools. This hands-on approach ensures you can put your skills into practice immediately, learning from experienced teachers and interacting with schoolchildren from day one.

SCITT’s comprehensive central training programme, delivered by subject specialists and seasoned educators, prepares you to become an outstanding teacher, set you up for a lifelong career and make a genuine difference to young children lives.

Cllr Amanda Pinnock, Cabinet member for Education and Communities, said:

“Since its inception, SCITT has successfully trained over 800 teachers across primary and secondary education. All our graduates have secured jobs, many within Kirklees and Calderdale, and there is a constant demand from head teachers eager to recruit SCITT trainees.

“Many graduates have told us the move into teaching changed their lives for the better – they have found it incredibly rewarding to work with children and young people, educating and nurturing young minds. Teachers have a lasting impact, they improve outcomes and they truly make a difference.”

From September 2024, Kirklees and Calderdale SCITT are collaborating with Huddersfield Horizon SCITT as a lead delivery partner who will award Qualified Teacher Status to all successful trainees.

Michael, a successful primary trainee, shares:

“Being in schools and experiencing teaching first-hand is invaluable. The support from SCITT mentors and staff has allowed me to develop and grow as a teacher.”

Chloe, who trained as an English teacher, adds:

“The course provided me with confidence, a network of supportive teachers, and a wealth of knowledge and resources. SCITT has nurtured my enthusiasm and developed my practice, making me optimistic about my teaching career.”

Kirklees and Calderdale SCITT are now recruiting for their September 2025 training programme. Applications are welcomed, virtual and face-to-face information events are planned during October and November.
