Islamophobia Awareness Month 2024

It’s Islamophobia Awareness Month 2024 and this year’s theme is Seeds of Change to emphasise how small actions can lead to big change.

This could be starting a conversation, questioning someone’s views, or something more – we can all plant a seed to help tackle Islamophobia.

Below is an overview of activities happening in Kirklees that you can get involved in.

Poetry in Batley – 08 November

Put your creative writing skills on display and come along to share a poem with Batley Poets on Friday 8th November 7-9pm at Batley Library.  It’s a free event and everyone is welcome to share their work or listen to the works of others. Book your free ticket via Eventbrite.

Antisemitism and Islamophobia Awareness Training – 12 November

Open to everyone, you can access training specifically aimed at looking at what antisemitism and islamophobia are, what the impact is on both communities and how both can be challenged. Find further details and how to book your free place on Eventbrite.

Poetry in Dewsbury – 28 November

Reporting hate crimes

Visit our website on hate incident and hate crime reporting.

Speak to Safer Kirklees and West Yorkshire Police about how to report a hate crime. They will be available at Huddersfield Open Market on 19 November 10am-2pm and at Dewsbury Open Market on 20 November 10am-2pm.
