Project Empowerment is helping Kirklees residents take the first steps towards employment

Project Empowerment

Project Empowerment is the most recent support programme delivered by our Wellness service, Employment and Skills team and Kirklees Success Centres.

Funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Project Empowerment aims to support residents who are experiencing health challenges which may be preventing them from finding or maintaining work.

How does Project Empowerment work?

The support starts with our Wellness Service, which works alongside individuals to address these health challenges and build their confidence. This bespoke support is tailored and dependent on each person’s current circumstances. Individuals will be able to discuss what their immediate health concerns are, and any challenges they face, before planning what they would like to achieve in the short term, enabling them to take the necessary steps to address these challenges.

Individuals are also encouraged to develop their life skills and work experiences so that when the time is right for them to progress into employment, they are in a strong position. They are also supported in searching and applying for their preferred jobs.

Jess, a former Project Empowerment participant who has secured an apprenticeship role with the support of the programme, said:

“With Claire’s help and friendliness, I was able to complete applications. She would make the time for me to ensure that they were perfect before they were sent. She has really supported me and helped me in finding a job that I wanted. I could thank her a thousand times and it would never be enough, her help and the Employment service at Kirklees has been phenomenal!”.

Cllr Graham Turner, Cabinet Member for Finance and Regeneration says:

“In Kirklees, we want to make sure all residents can access support to help achieve their potential, regardless of what obstacles might be in their way.

“The hard work and commitment of the Wellness Service and Employment and Skills team in supporting individuals with their health challenges and helping them to develop their skills to find employment is truly commendable.”
