Kirklees Top 100 Careers Edition inspires young people to explore local opportunities
The Kirklees Top 100 Careers Edition launched in April – designed to inspire young people from local schools and colleges by showcasing the diverse career opportunities available across Kirklees.
What is the Careers Edition?
The University of Huddersfield, 3M Buckley Innovation Centre (3M BIC), Business Kirklees and our Employment and Skills service came together to create the Careers Edition – it is part of the Kirklees Top 100 Companies initiative that brings attention to the diverse range of career opportunities available in Kirklees.
The Careers Edition aims to inspire younger people and help them recognise their local area is a great place to learn, work, grow and thrive. The initiative is a great way for young people who are considering future career options to find opportunities which already exist, at some of the most successful businesses in Kirklees.
Careers Edition Event
School career leads, career advisors and wider business representatives attended the Careers Edition event held on Wednesday 2 April at the 3M BIC, to hear from guest speakers, ask questions, provide feedback into the initiative and receive one of the first copies of the Careers Edition brochure.
The event was opened by Cllr Amanada Pinnock, Cabinet Member for Education and Communities at Kirklees Council, and featured a passionate and knowledgeable panel from a variety of industries who all gave their thoughts on the employment landscape, the opportunities which exist in the local labour market and the support that is available for those embarking on their career. The audience asked some thought-provoking questions and made some positive contributions to the evening’s discussions.

Cllr Amanada Pinnock Cabinet Member for Education and Communities at Kirklees Council said:
“This year’s Kirklees Top 100 list features businesses who are leading the way in their industries and achieving great things; we know that the foundation of their success, lies with their people. The intention of the Top 100 Careers Edition is to support and guide our young people throughout their career journey, equipping them with the confidence and skills to make the right choices – and to take their first vital steps in their transition from school to College, to an Apprenticeship, or to University and on to what is an ever more complex and challenging labour market. It is crucial that we continue to shine a spotlight on the wide range of careers opportunities which exist locally, and share the message with our schools, careers advisors and most importantly young people that you can build your chosen career right here in Kirklees.”
What happens next?
The brochure will be sent to schools and colleges across Kirklees, with the aim of careers leads using this information as a tool to support, inspire and advise young people on their future career options. You can also view the brochure online – KT100-24-25-Careers-Brochure.pdf
Looking forward, we are shaping the strategy for the Top 100 careers edition activity, making plans for the next 12 months.
