Holmfirth Town Centre Access Plan – Scheme update June 2025
Here is the latest from our improvement scheme in Holmfirth.
Town centre footways and cycle stands
We’ve been making some improvements to the footpaths in the town centre. The footway between Victoria Street along to the entrance of the bus station on Towngate, is now complete, with gully upgrades, Yorkstone kerbs and flagging, traffic signals, new cycle stands and lay-by improvements.

Work is ongoing along Towngate to Dunford Road where new Yorkstone paving, kerbing and block paving is being laid, and traffic signals installed and will be completed later this month.

Huddersfield Road Car Park
Piling is due to start on the car park. Piling is the process of inserting structural piles into the ground which will become the base of the building. The “pile” distributes the weight of the structure evenly.

Environment Agency permits determine work timeframes
For work to go ahead on the car park, permits are required from the Environment Agency. This is because of the close proximity of the site to the River Holme. A permit allows work to go ahead whilst minimising the impact on the wildlife, flora and fauna. So, if you don’t see work on site, it due to restriction in place, however, work continues in other areas and behind the scenes.

Expect the unexpected
At the end of May, there was an unexpected burst water main. Yorkshire Water were called and emergency works were completed by midnight the same day to carry out emergency works. The pipe, originally installed around 1900, showed signs of deterioration due to age and had collapsed in on itself. It has not caused a delay in the project.
