Nominate your Kirklees Recycling Hero for an award
Nominations are now open for the Recycling Hero Awards 2025, as Kirklees Council once again looks to residents to celebrate the borough’s sustainable superstars.
Who can be nominated
Residents can nominate friends, family members, colleagues, young people, schools, and businesses who are setting the benchmark when it comes to reducing, reusing, and recycling in Kirklees.
Award categories
A Community Award that will recognise an individual or community group that is leading the way or facilitating others to improve their recycling habits for a cleaner, greener world is the new entrant in this year’s category list. The Recycling Hero, Business Recycling Hero and Young Recycling Hero categories return alongside an expanded school award that now includes School and Youth Activity Recycling. This award is open to nominations for schools and any youth group activity such as youth clubs, scouts and guide groups.
Sponsors
The 2025 Awards are kindly sponsored by UK Glass, Suez and Revive alongside new sponsors MedEquip who are suppliers of community equipment to keep people independent at home, and local football club Huddersfield Town FC.
Councillor Tyler Hawkins, Cabinet Member for Highways and Waste said:
“I am delighted to announce the opening of nominations for the Recycling Hero Awards 2025. Our ambition is clear – we want to achieve zero avoidable waste by 2038. Reaching that goal requires more than council initiatives alone; it depends on the everyday actions of residents, businesses, and community groups across the borough.
“Each year, these awards give us the opportunity to shine a spotlight on the local champions who are leading the way in recycling, reducing, and reusing. We have so many trailblazers in Kirklees whose efforts inspire others and help drive us all toward a more sustainable future.
“If you know someone who is going above and beyond – or if you think you could be one of Kirklees’ sustainability superstars – I encourage you to get involved and make a nomination.”
How to nominate someone
People can submit a nomination for themselves or anyone else through the council’s website at www.kirklees.gov.uk/recycling-heroes by filling out a short online form including a statement of no more than 200 words to explain why their nominee should win an award.
Deadline for nominations
The deadline to submit a nomination is Tuesday 30 September, nominations will not be accepted after this date.
Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at Huddersfield Town Hall in November where the Mayor of Kirklees, Councillor Liz Smaje, will present awards for winners and runners-up.
