For the grownups

There is no charge to attend, and all activities are free too, although some activities will need to be booked in advance. Helmets will be provided where needed.

For everyone

Guided nature and heritage walk

Join a fascinating guided walk-through Greenhead Park, led by EPIKS environmental ranger Gilly.

This 90-minute tour will uncover the rich layers of natural history hidden in the landscape of the park – from the evolution of its trees to the origins of place names and the park’s colonial connections.

You’ll explore how the park has changed over time and how it reflects wider social, environmental and historical shifts – all while strolling through one of Huddersfield’s most loved green spaces.

The tours start at 10am and 11:30am. Book your free guided nature walk on Eventbrite or just turn up on the day.

Bike maintenance

For a free check-up, take your bike to the pavilion near the tennis court in Greenhead Park.

Dr Bike will be there between 11am and 3pm to give your bike a free health check. They’ll be able to make any minor adjustments and advise of you of any repairs you might need at a bike shop.

Book your bike maintenance slot on Eventbrite.

Register your bike

The Neighbourhood Policing Team will also be there between 10am and 2pm, to register people’s bikes on the Bike Register.  Bring along your bike so they can install your personalised barcode.

Councillor Beverley Addy, Cabinet Member for Public Health said:

“I love to see events like this, especially when they are taking place in the heart of communities like our fantastic parks. What a brilliant example of communities thriving, with local organisations working alongside the council to help people change their lives for the better. I know it’s going to be a great day out – it is also an opportunity for people of all ages to try out new modes of transport and think about how it might work for them. I hope to see you there!

“It is the simple things we take for granted, but walking or cycling for part of your journey might give you the chance to be closer to nature, de-stress for the day, or get some gentle exercise which we know does us all the world of good.”

Beth Lomas, Active Travel Manager at Environmental Projects in Kirklees said:

“This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to try out some fun, free activities in the beautiful setting of the park. Here at EPIKS we want to make walking, wheeling and cycling accessible to everyone and encourage people to have a go no matter your age or experience. All activities are free, under instruction and helmets provided where needed. Staff will be on hand to provide information and answer any questions you might have about all modes of active travel. So come along and have a go!”

This event is supported by Kirklees Council, and funded by the UK Government through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA).  WYCA are also funding activities from Everybody’s Cycling, who will be holding events across West Yorkshire this Summer.
