Don’t Lose Your Vote – Reapply for your postal vote before 31 January 2026

You need to re-apply to vote by post

Thousands of Kirklees residents could lose their postal votes ahead next year’s local elections — unless they take action now.

Under new national rules, postal votes now expire every three years. That means if you haven’t reapplied recently, your postal vote will be cancelled unless you renew it before 31 January 2026.

We’ve already written to over 68,000 residents who currently vote by post. Around 47,000 have responded — but that still leaves around 20,748 people at risk of missing out.

Why it matters

Next year’s local elections are big — it’s an all-out election, with all 69 Kirklees Council seats up for grabs. Every vote counts, and we want to make sure everyone who prefers to vote by post can do so.

If you don’t reapply in time, your postal vote will be cancelled. You’ll either need to vote in person at the polling station or reapply from scratch.
