Cllr Amanda Pinnock, Cabinet Member for Communities and Environment, said:
“It’s a tremendous honour to bring such a renowned national event right into the heart of Dewsbury. The Christmas Lectures have inspired generations and now young people across Kirklees can experience that excitement first-hand.
“These are the kind of high quality opportunities we want for our communities. I encourage families to book early and be part of this extraordinary moment for our library.”
The livestreams will take place at Dewsbury Library, with two special sessions planned.
The first livestream on Thursday, 11 December, 6–8pm, brings the excitement of space exploration to life. It explores how modern technology helps us search for life beyond Earth, understand what life looks like from space, with astronaut insights and updates on the Artemis Moon mission.
The second livestream on Tuesday, 16 December, 6–8pm, explores the search for signs of alien life and the mysteries of black holes. Looking at the universe beyond our solar system and how using the James Webb Space Telescope reveals distant stars, galaxies, and exoplanets.
Kirklees Libraries are part of the Living Knowledge Network and alongside the British Library and the Royal Institution this collaboration helps bring world-class cultural and scientific experiences directly to local communities.
Kirklees residents will have the rare chance to be among the first to watch the filming of this year’s Christmas Lectures, streamed live from the iconic Royal Institution Theatre.
Audiences can glimpse the magic of television production, including pauses, resets, audience interaction and extra content not seen in the final broadcast. Viewers will also have the chance to ask questions and experience the atmosphere of live filming. A unique and immersive experience for adults, families and young people aged 11–16.
