Recycling centre relocates keeping multi-billion pound project on track
Weaving Lane Household Waste and Recycling Centre, Dewsbury is relocating across the yard as Network Rail acquire the current site to accommodate works on Transpennine Route Upgrade.
The move is funded by Network Rail who require access to the railway line which operates between Dewsbury and Ravensthorpe as they build a new retaining wall and create space for new tracks.
When the move will take place
In December, the recycling centre will close overnight with containers and facilities being transported to the other side of the current site. It will reopen at the new location the following day with little disruption to users.
Residents can access the new site via the same route along Thornhill Road and Weaving Lane, but rather than turning right at the entrance gates, it will be a left turn.
Councillor Tyler Hawkins, Cabinet Member for Highways and Waste said:
“This has been a positive collaboration between the council and the Transpennine Route Upgrade and a fantastic opportunity to deliver real improvements to recycling facilities in Kirklees.
“The new layout will provide a more accessible facility over two levels with additional parking, making it much easier and safer for the public to access the containers and dispose of their household waste.
“I’d like to thank the team behind the Transpennine Route Upgrade, and everyone involved for their cooperation.”
Andrew Campbell, Transpennine Route Upgrade sponsor, said:
“We’d like to thank our colleagues at Kirklees Council for their support in this important move for the programme.
“Our work in the area, namely the relocation of the recycling centre, will enable us to press ahead with plans to install more tracks throughout this section of railway and beyond so that faster, more frequent services can run in the future.
“The Transpennine Route Upgrade will deliver improved rail journeys across the North and our ongoing collaboration with Kirklees Council is vital.”
Winter opening times
