Kirklees Council invites residents to help shape investment plans for 2026/27

Budget 2026/27

We are asking residents and businesses across Kirklees to share their views on how public money should be spent in 2026/27 as part of the council’s budget consultation.

This is the second year we’ve published a full draft budget for public consultation. By publishing the budget now, everyone can see the proposals before final decisions are made on spending and services across Kirklees for the next financial year. The consultation is residents’ chance to influence how resources for public services are used in Kirklees.

The draft budget explains how the council plans to invest in essential services such as social care, education, roads, waste collection and community support. It also sets out how the council intends to balance the budget by reducing administrative costs and improving productivity. This means that the impact of budget savings on frontline services is minimal.

Anyone who lives or works in Kirklees can take part in the online survey. It includes clear information about the council’s financial position, spending plans and savings proposals. It also shows how much money is allocated to each service area.

Share your views on the 2026/27 budget consultation.

Your feedback will help councillors understand what matters most to you and will be used to shape the final 2026/27 budget.

The survey is open from 3 December to 7 January.

Councillor Carole Pattison, Leader of Kirklees Council, said:

“We know that setting a balanced budget is becoming increasingly difficult as demand for our services rises and funding remains limited. After years of making tough choices to keep our budgets balanced, we’ve reached a turning point in the council’s finances.

“It’s vital that residents and partners understand the tough choices we face and have a say in how we prioritise spending. This is about being open, transparent and involving our communities in shaping the future of local services.”

Councillor Graham Turner, Cabinet Member for Finance and Regeneration, added:

“We’re committed to making the council’s budget more accessible and easier to understand. This is the most open and transparent budget process we’ve ever seen in Kirklees.

“We’re publishing more information about our spending than ever before so that Kirklees people can have their say before we finalise the budget. We want to know what matters most to people and how our proposals might impact them.”
