Christmas Treecycling scheme raises vital funds for Kirklees charities

Treecycling

We are supporting The Kirkwood and Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice’s Christmas Tree Recycling scheme which helps raise additional funds for the charities.

By arranging a no-hassle tree collection, you can dispose of your real Christmas tree organically whilst helping to raise essential funds for two charities that support children and adults with life-limiting illnesses.

Last year the Kirklees community donated over 3,800 Christmas trees, helping to raise over £65,000 for the charities.

Give your Christmas tree a new lease of life

The trees collected were turned into wood chippings to be used as top dressings on soil in local parks, sports fields, and farms, while some were used as biomass for green heating.

Councillor Tyler Hawkins, Cabinet Member for Highways and Waste, said:

“We are delighted to once again support our two local hospices with their annual Christmas tree recycling campaigns. Now in its ninth year, this initiative continues to make a real difference – raising vital funds for The Kirkwood and Forget Me Not.

“For me, this support is deeply personal and I know first‑hand the extraordinary difference hospice staff and volunteers make to families across our community. That is why I am so proud that we can help sustain their work through campaigns like this.

“This year, we are aiming to collect and recycle even more trees than before. Not only does this scheme allow us to take another step towards our net zero goals, it ensures our hospices can continue their invaluable care for local people.”

Each charity is slightly different, but trees can be collected and recycled for a donation of around £12.
