Kirklees Council’s Adult Social Care Improvement Plan, setting out the actions it is taking to address areas identified by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) was considered at Cabinet on 10 February.

Whilst the CQC recognised some real strengths in their report, including the dedication of frontline staff, strong co-production, our outstanding approach to learning, good person centred safeguarding systems and effective partnership working, the Improvement Plan further builds on work already underway across adult social care. This continues on focussing on delivering timely, person-centred support, improving access and inclusion, strengthening transitions between services, and supporting a sustainable and high-quality local care market.

The plan sets out eight key themes, including reducing waiting times, improving transitions from children’s to adult services, supporting independence through reablement, strengthening workforce practice and leadership, and ensuring people are heard through effective advocacy.

Many actions are already complete or in progress, with clear governance and oversight in place to track progress.

Councillor Nosheen Dad, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said:

“CQC found many strengths in our services, including dedication of frontline staff, creative approaches to care and effective partnership working. We are building on all those positives so that local people receive good levels of support and continue to be safeguarded effectively. At the same time, the inspection also confirmed areas for development which we were already taking steps to address. The action plan shows our commitment to delivering high-quality services for vulnerable residents. We will continue to work closely with service users, families and carers, service providers and partners as we deliver these improvements.”

The council will continue to provide regular updates on progress and will work transparently with the CQC, partners and local communities to ensure improvements are sustained.
