Delight for Kirklees families as school places secured

children

Families across Kirklees are celebrating after being offered a secondary school place at one of their preferred schools.

Over 5,300 children across Kirklees will be transferring to secondary school in September 2026 – with 97.5% allocated a place at one of the schools listed as a preference on their application.

Councillor Jane Rylah, Cabinet Member for Education, said:

“Starting secondary school is a major milestone for young people and their families. Matching pupils to their school preference supports a positive transition on a child’s learning journey.

“We are delighted that the overwhelming majority of pupils have secured a place at one of their chosen schools for September 2026. These results reflect the hard work of our admissions team and the strong partnership we have with schools across Kirklees.”

This year’s secondary school allocations show that 4,793 families (89.7% of applicants) secured a place at their first preference school. A further 345 families (6.5%) were offered their second preference, and 71 families (1.3%) gained a place at their third preference.

Ensuring all learners can access a high-quality education, with opportunities to reach their full potential, is a key objective of Our Kirklees Futures, the district’s shared vision for learning. For more details, visit the Our Kirklees Futures webpage.
