Kirklees Together

Residents across Kirklees are invited to enjoy a wide range of activities that bring together creativity, nature and community. 

Supported by Seasons of Culture – Nature, a programme developed by Kirklees Council in partnership with the wider West Yorkshire region. Local artists, organisations and community groups are hosting events across the district until December. 

Whether you enjoy getting outdoors, trying something creative, spending time with family or learning something new, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. Activities include theatre, music, exhibitions, woodland experiences, creative workshops, nature walks and community celebrations, taking place in parks, libraries, schools, town centres and other local venues. 

Councillor Pip Harvey, Cabinet Member for Place, Culture and Volunteering, said: 

“We’re delighted to support such a diverse and exciting range of projects through the Seasons of Culture – Nature programme. 

These activities highlight the creativity we have across Kirklees while helping people connect with nature, their local area and each other. There are opportunities for people of all ages to get involved, learn new skills and enjoy experiences on their doorstep. 

The programme shows how culture and nature can go hand in hand, helping improve wellbeing, bring communities together and encourage people to explore the fantastic green spaces we have across Kirklees.” 

 Highlights from the programme include: 

• Common Grounds in the Holme Valley, an exhibition exploring nature, climate and local landscapes through art, photography and sound. 
• EARTHSTRONG: The Rhythm of Nature in Dewsbury, combining drumming, dance, visual arts, tree planting and a community performance. 
• Roots & Regeneration, celebrating South Asian culture, heritage and the environment through festivals, walks and activities for schools. 
• In the Company of Trees, a family-friendly woodland experience at Meltham Reservoir featuring storytelling, poetry, dance and art. 
• Holme Mills Sculpture Trail in Marsden and Slaithwaite, displaying sculptures created from reclaimed materials and community artwork. 
• Plastic Drastic Fantastic, an interactive theatre show for families that explores environmental themes through storytelling, music and dance. 
• Rooted, offering forest school sessions, family craft activities and the creation of a new nature trail in Marsden. 
• Library Gardens: Art, Plants & Place, bringing together gardening, creativity and local heritage through workshops, planting projects and an exhibition. 

The programme also includes mindful nature walks, ethical foraging sessions, photography and storytelling projects, biodiversity activities, climate-themed creative workshops and outdoor arts experiences. 

Events are taking place across Kirklees until December, giving residents the chance to discover new places, meet new people and enjoy culture and nature close to home.
