At its meeting today (14 November 2023), Kirklees Council’s Cabinet received an update on the authority’s budget. The monitoring show’s our financial position has improved, with our forecast overspend for 2023/24 reducing from £20.3m in July to £16.1m in October.

At today’s cabinet meeting, members approved plans that will result in further savings across its revenue budgets. The proposed plans could reduce council property running costs by around £240,000 per year while continuing to protect the core estate.

We have recently approved changes to its tree and woodland management policy.

Overall, our current programme should deliver more than 2,000 new homes by 2030.  Work has already begun to deliver around 800 of these new homes, including two Extra Care schemes which will provide supported housing for older people.

Cabinet has approved an update to the Resources and Waste Strategy, including proposed changes to the timeline for some initiatives set out in the original 2021 strategy, re-prioritising some of the action points and introducing some new initiatives.
