Extensive Refurbishments to Dewsbury Moor and Huddersfield Crematoria under way.

We are investing in excess of £3m at both Dewsbury Moor and Huddersfield and Crematoria as part of a modernisation programme. Work began at Huddersfield Crematorium in October with ‘front of house’ refurbishment.
Works have now commenced at Dewsbury to replace the existing cremator equipment and work will be planned at a future date for the ‘front of house’ refurbishment at Dewsbury Moor. The cremator replacement works will take approximately 20 weeks to complete. Huddersfield Crematorium will also have state-of-the-art equipment installed which will replace the quarter of a century old cremators for which parts are no longer available.
What does this mean?
The crematoria will be operating on a reduced capacity of four services per day whilst the major replacement programme is taking place. During the 20 week programme there will need to be a full closure of 1 week at Dewsbury Moor and Funeral Directors will be notified in advance.
Cllr Naheed Mather, Cabinet Member for Communities and Environment, Kirklees Council said:
“We are committed to providing the best service possible to families and funeral directors across Kirklees. The investment will provide long-term security of services for the years to come.”
How will Funeral directors know the impact of the renovations?
Funeral directors and providers can speak to their nominated contacts for specific details relating to each crematorium.
