Our staff support ‘The Big Sleep Out’
A group of our employees are braving the outdoors for a night at the John Smith’s Stadium to support the HTFC Big Sleep Out event.
Colleagues from different departments including Chief Executive Jacqui Gedman, Head of People Services Deborah Lucas and seven members of the Young Employee Network are coming together to take on the challenge of sleeping out for the night to raise funds for local charities that support rough sleepers and homeless and vulnerable people.
Participants are asked to fundraise at least £100 per person to take part with 100% of funds raised used to support local homeless causes.
Last year’s event raised £55k, with most money going to The Huddersfield Mission. Other charities that benefited were The Welcome Centre in Huddersfield, Batley Care & Drop In, Batley Food Bank and One Big Family.
Head of People Services at Kirklees Council said “Homelessness is a big issue across the whole country. In Kirklees, our Housing Solutions Service work with partners and community groups to give specialist support so that people can link in to the appropriate help and we’re delighted that we can support this work further with £120,000 extra funding from the Government specifically awarded to help rough sleepers in Kirklees.
On a personal level, myself and my colleagues wanted to show our support to some of the fantastic charities in Kirklees that we work with to support the most vulnerable people in our communities.”
