Huddersfield Alternative Market

The Huddersfield Alternative Market is an opportunity for young people (16 to 30) to try their hand at trading at a local festival market.
This time our young traders have an opportunity to be chosen to compete for England’s Young Trader of the Year, so make sure you come and support them.
When and where is the market?
The market is being held on Saturday 25 May at 10am till 4pm on New Street in Huddersfield town centre.
What kind of stalls will there be?
There’ll be a range of stalls from arts, books, crafts and stationery to fashion, food and drink, games, illustration and design, jewellery, memorabilia, photography, records, toiletries, toys, vintage. Let your imagination run wild!
England’s Young Trader of the Year
In order for judging to take place, the assessments are tailored to the following categories; Arts and crafts, grocery, general retail, street food.
Assessors will be with the young traders throughout the day to carry out their assessments and to offer advice and support.
The traders will be judged on setting up, and throughout the day on a number of criteria eg. product originality, quality, knowledge of the product, pricing, cleanliness, merchandising, professionalism, communication and sales techniques.
The young people chosen on Saturday will go through to the regional heat to be held in York on 1 August, with the final taking place in Stratford upon Avon in September.
Upcoming market events
The International Market will return to Huddersfield, Thursday 6 June – Sunday 9 June, with up to 50 stalls of continental foods, unique crafts and fabulous gifts sold by specialist traders from across Europe, plus a bar and entertainment area. Watch out for more information.
