How to be lucky – a must-see play and other events!

How to be Lucky on Monday 24 June 2019 7:00pm – 9:00pm at the Huddersfield Methodist Mission follows the story of Anwar. As he shares his story of how his family’s life moved from idyllic peace, through chaos and onto the new reality of living in the UK.
What’s the story?
His story is an amalgamation and synthesis of the many stories shared with us, by Syrian refugees, during our research and writing of the play.
Breaking between performed action, audience conversation and group exercises, over the course of the piece we weave between Anwars story and sections of direct conversation with the audience about the wider topic of what it might mean to be a refugee today
Why is it important?
How to be Lucky seeks to do 2 principal and simple things, to present a story that shows human resilience and fortitude from what are after all just ordinary people but who find themselves placed in extraordinary circumstances, and we ask our audiences how we think we would react and wish others to react to us if we suddenly were catapulted into a similar situation beyond our own control
