Scrutiny Panel Meeting – Wednesday August 7 2019

A Kirklees Scrutiny Panel will hold a special meeting to review the recent Cabinet decision on the future options for Almondbury Community School.

The decision taken by Cabinet has been ‘called in’ for review by five other councillors, which means no action can be taken to implement it until it has been fully considered by the Children’s Scrutiny Panel.

The Panel will focus on the specific areas outlined in the ‘call in’. These include questions about the capacity of secondary school places, the availability of information and legislation relevant to the statutory notice.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday August 7 at Huddersfield Town Hall, starting at 10am.

The Scrutiny Panel does not have power to overturn the Cabinet decision. However, having considered evidence presented at the hearing, it can recommend that Cabinet members consider amendments.

The Panel will hear evidence from Cabinet members and other councillors, while members of the public can also contribute. Anyone who wishes to address the Panel is required to register to speak. This should be done before 5pm on Tuesday August 6 by contacting the Governance Team on 01484 221000 or emailing scrutiny.governance@kirklees.gov.uk

Alternatively, written information can be submitted. This must be sent to the Governance Team, Civic Centre 3, High Street, Huddersfield, HD1 2TG or emailed to scrutiny.governance@kirklees.gov.uk before 5pm on Monday August 5.

Please note that spoken and written information should be relevant to the specific areas of focus outlined in the ‘call in’. Further details are available on the council website.
