Tolson Museum celebrates our heritage

With help from its Friends group, Tolson Museum in Huddersfield is marking Heritage Open Days with three very different events, all of which are free to attend.
Heritage Open Days is England’s annual celebration of history, architecture and culture and Tolson Museum, in Ravensknowle Park, Wakefield Road, is providing a taste of all three.
When do the events start?
On Sunday, 8 September, a wide range of new, classic and heritage motorbikes will take pride of place in front of the museum. The Motorbike Show, organised by the Friends of Tolson and Ravensknowle, is from 11am to 4pm and will include stalls and refreshments.
Then, on Saturday, 14 September, there will be an open air performance of Mikron Theatre’s ‘All Hands on Deck’ in the Heritage Memorial Garden behind the museum. The drama is a tale of two Wrens looking for wartime adventure and who find themselves in unchartered waters on a journey they will never forget. The performance starts at 12noon and refreshments will be served beforehand and during the interval by the Friends who have organised this event.
Completing Tolson’s celebrations will be Heritage Open Days Tours on Sunday, 15 September, at 1pm and 2.30pm. Volunteer guides will take visitors on a fascinating tour focusing on ‘People Power’, looking at the men and women who have shaped the history of Ravensknowle Park and Tolson Museum. Tours last approximately 40 minutes and are family friendly. Places should be booked in the day at the reception desk.
