Huddersfield parks have won Much Loved status

Two of Huddersfield’s parks have won Much Loved status in a national competition which saw Beaumont Park win the regional title.

Which parks won the Much Loved status?

Green Flag Award winning Beaumont Park has been voted Yorkshire’s Best Park for the Yorkshire and Humber region by Fields in Trust.

It won the regional title following a nomination which identified the park as “an amazing, magical Victorian Park”. The park was praised as a well-maintained green space and described as “a haven for wildlife, plants and trees”.

Beaumont Park which opened in 1883 as a gift to the people of Huddersfield, is one of 73 parks and green spaces across the UK which has achieved ‘Much Loved’ status.

Who organises The UK’s Best Park?

The UK’s Best Park is organised by green space charity Fields in Trust who, for over 90 years, have legally protected parks and green spaces ensuring they will always be available for future generations to enjoy.

Cllr Rob Walker, Cabinet Member for Parks and Green Spaces said:

“To win this award is absolutely fantastic. For a park to achieve this, there are a lot of people behind the scenes who work continuously to ensure the park is maintained and kept to a high standard.

The transformation that has taken place over the years and the growing popularity of the park is a testament to all the people who have been involved past and present, and recognised by these awards.”

Who are Fields in Trust?

Fields in Trust is an independent charity which champions and supports parks and green spaces by protecting them for people to enjoy in perpetuity.

How many nominations were they?

A record 364 nominations were received for UK’s Best Park 2019, which received 36,832 votes from members of the public.

Did we achieve any more status achieved?

Greenhead Park, in Huddersfield also achieved ‘Much Loved’ status after being placed in the top 20% of all UK’s Best Park 2019 nominations throughout the UK.

Much Loved status recognises the support of local people who use and love these parks and green spaces.

  • That’s really great very pleasing … but how about putting an end to early evening commercial waste being fired on a weekly basis
    This bellowing black smoke can not be missed and is a total disgrace of being ignored … I have photo evidence. The risk to health and the environment is being treat as a joke … you meet to act NOW!!
