Cosmia Festival
The UK’s first multi-arts festival dedicated to science fiction, fantasy & speculative fiction takes place in Huddersfield.
Cosmia is an arts festival inspired by Science Fiction, Fantasy and Speculative Fiction. Based in the home town of Captain Picard, Doctor Who and Queen Cersei, the festival will transport you to new worlds, explore amazing ideas, and much much more.
There are daily events at venues in central Huddersfield including the Library, the University and the LBT.

Temporary Contemporary Happening
The monthly Temporary Contemporary Happening is a chance to see the latest exhibition by staff and researchers from the University of Huddersfield in the gallery in Queensgate, as well as work from other artists showcasing in vacant market stalls The latest gallery exhibition. The Persistence of Utopia, features work developed out of the themes of the first Cosmia SF, Fantasy and Speculative Fiction Festival – concepts of utopia and dystopia.
Other work on show:
Echoes of a Market.- the listening and recording pod by Parley and artists is a place to capture memories, stories and sounds of market life and our relationship with place.
Market Showcase – artists exhibiting in vacant market stalls – Kath Wright, Jo Wilkinson, Henry Morris and Helen Cummings.
Plus, CollaborARTi will be opening their new space in empty Piazza shops in the Piazza Arcade (opposite the Library & Art Gallery) and Ame will open for a preview of their photographic exhibition ‘Of Past Present Future’. Call in during the evening and find out what’s going on there.

Half Term Horrors at Kirklees Light Railway
From Saturday 26 October to Sunday 3 November 2019, join the Kirklees Light Railway for some spooktacular fun!
There will be creepy craft activities and spooky storytelling sessions which are totally free for those holding valid day tickets for the railway. These sessions will be drop-in for ticket holders & there’s no need to book in advance.
Trains will be running every 40 minutes from 10.20am until the final train of the day at 3.40pm. The last train on 31 Oct & 1-2 Nov will be 3pm.
Crafts & storytelling will be available from 11am until 3pm.

Huddersfield Indie Festival 2019
The ‘Hudds Indie’ festival will happen for the first time on the weekend of Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 October and will showcase collaborative menus, music, craft beers and cultural activity, aiming to also promote Huddersfield as one of the best places for small independent businesses and experiences, giving you reason to come back time and time again!
As well as the main celebration of independent festivals, there will also be ‘Piazza Weekend’ which will include creative happenings at the Piazza Centre, including exhibitions, performances, street performances, installations, music and face painting!

Huddersfield Town FC Fireworks Display 2019
Town’s Firework Spectacular returns on Sunday 27 October 2019 in an exciting new venue
It’ll take place in St. Andrew’s Road car park at the John Smith’s Stadium.
The gates will open at 4.30pm and the fireworks, provided by Standard Fireworks, will be set off at 7.45pm.
The annual fireworks event attracts thousands every year and this year and they’re anticipating it to be bigger and better!
Guests can enjoy delicious food from our vendors, including woodfired pizza and Yorkshire Pudding wraps.
Live entertainment and music on the night will be provided by the Pulse Roadshow, plus special guests to be confirmed very soon!
Along with music and entertainment, the Family Fun Fair will be returning, and it promises to be bigger and more spectacular than ever with more rides for all the family to enjoy! There will also be a face painter on-hand for all the youngsters attending.
They’re anticipating higher than normal crowds for the event so would encourage fans to pre-purchase tickets to help cut down on queues on the evening.
