Growing Great Places – community crowdfunding for Kirklees
Could you back an idea to make your local place even better? We’re supporting citizens and community organisations across Kirklees to get great ideas off the ground through crowdfunding. Projects are looking for your support right now in Almondbury, Batley, Cleckheaton, Dewsbury, East Bierley, Golcar, Huddersfield and Shepley.
How does it work?
It’s all about backing ideas that matter to local people. Everyone can chip in to support the projects. You can also get involved by sharing the projects online to encourage others to help. Ideas that get support from their communities also have a chance to receive funding from Kirklees Council (up to £5k for groups and up to £2.5k for individuals). We’re working with Spacehive to help people create successful crowdfunding campaigns.
Can you back a “Growing Great Places” project?
We’ve pledged our support to 8 projects that are helping to make our great local places even better – and over 250 citizens have already pledged to back these projects. You can get involved now to support ideas including community events and festivals, an organic flower and food growing project, and community sports facilities. Projects are only funded when they reach their target by their deadline, so your support really makes a difference.
Crowdfund for your project
If you’ve got an idea that you could get off the ground through crowdfunding, we can offer help and advice. You might have a little idea that can have a big impact by bringing a place together. Or you might need some help growing support for an ambitious project that’s just getting started. There will be workshops early in 2020, and you can talk to us about your ideas at any time. Why we’re doing this
Our towns, villages and communities are the strength of Kirklees. Local people have asked us to do more to recognise this. We should all have a stake in the places where we live, work or visit. So we’re celebrating our places by encouraging more great ideas. It’s part of our work to grow a stronger local democracy, from the ground up.
