Simon was with REAL for over a year looking for work. He completed multiple training and volunteering opportunities to prepare him for the world of work. When the time came to attend that interview thanks to the team Simon was ready.
Providing hands-on support helped Simon find a career in an area he was passionate about. Giving him the confidence to apply for jobs has helped him feel more independent and secure an apprenticeship.
Here’s what Simon had to say about the process
“I started working with REAL Employment in October 2018. When I started with REAL Employment they helped me with my CV and covering letter. I attended Job Clubs to search for work. My Advisor helped me with interview practice. I did some training courses with REAL Employment as well, such as COSHH and Money Management. I had been volunteering at Taylor Hill, doing groundworks for five years and this is what I was interested in.
My Advisor spoke to me about the Kirklees Council Gardening apprenticeship and applied for it in May 2019. I felt more confident as I had interview practice with my Advisor. I went for the interview and later on, I found out I got the apprenticeship, finding out this news made me happy and excited to start my first day.
I have been in my job for just under a month and I am enjoying it. I work all over Kirklees doing things such as grass cutting, pruning and line marking. I also go to college once a month to do the written work for my apprenticeship.
I would recommend REAL Employment as I feel they were great in supporting me to find my dream job.”
