Have you thought about the rewards of becoming a foster carer?

Our fostering service is asking people if they could help to change a child’s life through fostering.

We need people to become foster carers as more children continue to need care, especially teenagers and sibling groups such as brothers and sisters.

Online events

You can find out all you need to know, including why foster care is so rewarding, by joining one of two special online events on Tuesday September 15th (10.30am – noon) and Thursday September 17th (7pm to 8.30pm). The fostering team will be on hand to answer questions and help you to make informed decisions.

Fostering is a fantastic way to make a real and positive difference to a child’s life, providing a stable home and the help to flourish and achieve. People who foster with Kirklees Council benefit from ongoing training and support, in addition to financial allowances.

Cllr Viv Kendrick, Cabinet member for Children, said:

“We are always keen to recruit new carers, but it’s particularly important at the moment so I would encourage anyone who has thought about fostering to take those next few steps. We are also appealing to anyone who has enjoyed working from home in recent months or whose employment circumstances have changed.

The Covid-19 pandemic in particular has brought so many challenges for vulnerable young people and made it an exceptionally difficult time. It has also highlighted the incredible support children receive from our foster carers.

You really can make a huge difference to our most vulnerable children and young people. By changing your own future, you can help shape the future of a child who needs you too.”
