Help us name our Garden Waste Wagons

Garden collections might be over for the winter but the gnomes at the council have had a really busy year recycling garden waste from all across Kirklees. Six shiny new garden waste wagons will be added to their fleet next year and we are turning to residents to help name them!

This compost-ition is open to all Kirklees schools and residents. Entrants must supply their name, a contact email address and the name suggestion, only one entry per person. You can submit your entry using our online form here.

The entries our gnomes like best will be shortlisted and put to a public vote on Twitter.

Winning names will be painted onto the side of the garden waste wagons and the winning entrant will receive their very own garden gnome and the opportunity to have their photo taken with their wagon.

In the case of multiple entries of the same name, the award will go to the first entry received.

Cllr Naheed Mather, Cabinet Member for Greener Kirklees, said:

“Thanks to our trusty gnomes, the clip and collect garden waste service has always had a fun side. This competition is a chance for Kirklees residents, young and old alike, to get creative and have a bit of fun too.

Since the service started last year, over 8 thousand tonnes of garden waste, from almost 24,000 homes across Kirklees, has been collected and composted. We are hoping to see that quantity continue to grow as more residents subscribe to the service.

Good luck to everyone who enters the competition – I can’t wait to see what names you come up with!”

Get a twiggle on, closing date for entries is 11:59pm 6 Dec.
