Public urged to comment on Holme Valley Neighbourhood Development Plan

We are asking the general public to comment on the Holme Valley Neighbourhood Development Plan before it is submitted for independent examination.

What is the plan?

The plan, produced by Holme Valley Parish Council and its Steering Group, captures previously gathered local feedback to set out an agreed vision, objectives and planning policies for the area.

These policies help developers understand local priorities and aspirations, as well as support wider agendas including climate change issues and the Kirklees Local Plan.

When can you have your say?

The public are now being asked to have their say on the final plan between 12 noon on Tuesday 8 December and 5pm, Tuesday 2 February 2021.

What can you comment on?

This eight week consultation gives people the chance to comment on five documents:

  1. Holme Valley Neighbourhood Development Plan (Submission Plan)
  2. Strategic Environmental Assessment Report
  3. Habitats Regulation Assessment Screening
  4. Consultation Statement
  5. Basic Conditions Statement

Councillor Peter McBride, Cabinet Member for Regeneration said:

This opportunity gives local people a chance to have their say on the guiding principles that will be used for future developments in the area that, when introduced, will be used at the very earliest planning stages.

Even if you have commented before on previous versions, this is the last opportunity to make comments on the plan. So I’m asking residents, businesses, community groups and local organisations to read the information and have your say before it’s too late.”

What happens next?

We are responsible for sending all comments received during the consultation to the independent examiner for consideration.

Once feedback has been considered, and provided the plan meets relevant requirements, the Council and Peak District National Park Authority would move it to a local referendum.

If more than 50 percent of those who vote in the referendum vote in favour of the plan, it would become part of the statutory development plan alongside the Kirklees Local Plan.
